What do you value most when choosing your child’s wardrobe? There is no doubt that comfortable and inspiring design will be the most important, but if you are equally concerned about the ethical and ecological footprint of the clothes you buy, it can be difficult to know where to start. In recent years, as the world has become more connected, so has the call for sustainable shopping in our hearts.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, many of the brands in our edit are from Scandinavia, where appreciating the natural world, social awareness, and simple pleasure are second nature – values that are important to many of us in the hope of bringing more mindfulness, hygge, and friluftsliv to people. Our own family life (and wardrobe). We take a look at three designers from the Nordic region who put conscious design, carefree play, and the cool factor (they’re Scandinavians, after all) at the forefront. Minimo, Elordi and Minnie Rodini are introduced.
Scandinavian design focuses on comfort and understated style, and Minymo’s collection of everyday essentials does just that. The Danish label’s well-designed pieces are wardrobe staples, perfect for active and adventurous kids. Using organic cotton, bamboo, and viscose throughout the collection, the brand champions sustainable materials, all of which are certified by OEKO-TEX®, GOTS, and BIONIC FINISH® ECO. The ultra-soft and easy-to-move essentials come in pastel tones in keeping with their earth-friendly ethos and keep kids comfortable while they spend hours playing outside.
Not only does Elodie offer beautiful and well-designed accessories for babies, but it is also a brand that is fully committed to reducing its environmental impact, with the goal of… By 2026, every product… will all be based on…… We produce according to one standard. Four production principles”, which include the use of plant-based and recycled materials. Founded in Stockholm in 2005 by Linda Stätterström, the brand pioneered the world’s first pacifier made from bamboo, and today it blends sustainable accessories with a minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic that remains a source of inspiration.
Swedish illustrator-turned-designer Cassandra Rhodin is environmentally conscious and has created a whimsical, fashion-forward brand that brings joy to children’s wardrobes. Mini Rodini has always championed the use of colour, using original hand-painted prints, recycled materials and eco-friendly manufacturing principles – almost all of its garments are made from organic cotton or recycled plastic. In early 2022, the brand launched a swimwear line made entirely from recycled fishing nets.
